In February 2010 Ryan Mickey was found guilty of a crime that he did not commit and sentenced to 25 years to life in the California state prison system. He was found innocent of both 1st and 2nd degree murder but responsible on lesser charges for the death in February of 2006 of a 16 month old baby girl, Kerianne Bradley, his then girlfriend’s daughter that he loved very much and had been babysitting for months.

There are several factors that swayed the jury to find him guilty of these two lesser than murder charges.  The Murrieta police department withheld critical medical evidence from the Medical examiner when he performed the autopsy that may have changed his ruling as to cause of death.  The Assistant District attorney fabricated a non-seneschal story that he sold to the newspapers and the jury over and over and over until it somehow became the truth but in reality was not based on one single fact in the case…it was pure hyperbole   Accusing him of beating her, punching her and kicking her was the Assistant District attorney’s constant mantra.  When in fact, the real truth was she had a previous head injury that began to bleed internally 3 to 5 days before this incident that caused her to go into shock, stop breathing and ultimately and tragically die.  Ryan performed CPR for 25 minutes until paramedics arrived.  But it was to no avail, she passed away the next afternoon.  And finally, the judge prohibited key pieces of exculpatory evidence that also may have swayed the jury’s findings.  In addition, the jury had made their decision of innocence on the murder charges, but were hung 3 times on the lesser charges.  The judge insisted on a verdict, the jury had deliberated for over 3 weeks and were hung.  Finally, the judge gave the jury incorrect instructions on the lesser charges that gave them no choice but to find him guilty.

Believe what you will, newspaper reporters do not investigate the truth, they print what the District Attorney hands them.  Believe what you will, but the police do not try to get to the truth.  They shape and mold the evidence to fit the scenario that they create…not what really happened.  Believe what you will, but the District attorney would rather sensationalize a case with lies and fabrications in order to further his or her career rather than actually find the truth.
